If you pay attention to certain Internet Marketers, you will probably notice that a few of them stick to a specific group or market. A niche market is basically a targeted group of people. For example, if you sell candles, a wide target market would be all the people who buy and enjoy candles while a niche market would be those candle lovers who prefer soy candles.
There is a considerable difference between regular candles and soy candles. Candle entrepreneurs who do not carry soy candle products won’t be able to sell to this specific niche market.
One reason why entrepreneurs choose to focus on a niche market is because they want to be the “go-to person” for this particular niche - perhaps the only carrier or provider for a certain product or service. yes, it takes some effort and work but, if you focus on a specific niche, you have the chance to sell more of your products or service.
How does one figure out their niche?
Well, you could do some research. What are your interests - that’s where you can start. You could also survey your current market or mailing list and see if there is a particular product or service that they are needing that is not being met - perhaps, you can fill that need. I guarantee that they will provide you with lots of ideas on what niche market you should be focusing on.
There is also Wordtracker which can help you figure out keywords and phrases that are being searched frequently. Like for example, if your target market is people who are pet owners, and you plan on building a niche site about dog accessories, you can use wordtracker to see which dog accessories pet owners are searching for.
Figure out how many times a certain keyword is searched and also how many competing web pages there are for the specific keyword. The best thing to do would be to figure out a phrase that is searched often, but doesn’t have a lot of competing pages.
While developing your idea about your niche market, make sure to pay attention to your competition. Be aware of the products and services that are out there that service your market. Having this knowledge will help you determine how you can better service this niche and also improve on your existing product or service. You will have an opportunity to make your product or service more unique, offer more benefits to your audience while making sure that your items are easily accessible to them.
Once you have figured out your niche market and know what product or service to offer them, building your website and marketing plan will be your next step. Once everything falls into place, you can brainstorm for more related products and service that will make your niche market happy. This is the same process you will go through each time you want to narrow down a niche and successfully conquer that niche.
